Be the Best Dressed Wedding Guest

Getting a wedding invite in the mail is always super exciting, but then the realization of needing to find something to wear sinks in.

As the wedding date gets closer and closer, the stress of finding the right outfit increases drastically. Searching for an outfit with the right style, fit, and price becomes a challenge.

Starting your search months in advance is definitely a good idea, but do not let the current season’s style sway your decision. While shopping around, make sure you consider the time of year the wedding is held in.

5 things to know before meeting your event designer

#1: Budget

When it comes to the budget, most people have inaccurate expectations. Whether this is the first event they are planning or they are being hopeful, budgets are a sticky spot for most people. Not everything is as easy as Pinterest makes it seem. This is why it is a good idea to outline all possible costs so nothing comes as a surprise down the line. No matter the budget, it is essential to be transparent with your event designer as they can help propose décor that makes a statement without breaking the bank. It is their job to be creative based on your wants and budget so once these things are discussed it begins a great working relationship.

Set your Table to Make a Statement

As event producers, we are constantly thinking about the whole experience a guest has at an event. One thing we truly believe in is designing through the five senses; Sight, Touch, Hearing, Smell and Taste. Visually everything can look fantastic, but if it tastes like crap that will be the thing that sticks in your head. This is why over the years we have developed strong relationships with many caterers, this way we work in tandem to produce the best possible result for our client.

Many people eat with their eyes. Unfortunately there is no way around this. Most people don’t realize that they way their food is presented has a major impact on whether they deem it good or bad. That is why here at jesGORDONproperFUN we take great care in selecting what your food will be served on. We believe that beauty and functionality can be achieved together. In January, we were fortunate enough to attend the 2016 NY NOW Gift Show at the Javits Center, and I’m surprised we were able to control ourselves and not buy up the entire place. We saw some truly exquisite and inspirational design, and we want to share our favorites.

Most people have a love/hate relationship with Valentine’s Day. If they have a date than it is the best holiday! If not, they usually just hibernate so they don't have to witness the love bliss around town. But no matter your relationship status there is one thing that is universal about Valentine’s Day… Red Roses. Red roses have somehow made their title as the most romantic flower around. But here at the jesGORDON/properFUN studio we like to shake things up a bit! We have taken a poll and each came up with our favorite “no Red Roses allowed” Valentine’s Day Flowers. And because we couldn't just leave you hanging flowers in hand and no plans, we have also picked our favorite date spot for the occasion!

NYC is such a great place to live because you can find something beautiful everywhere you turn. Even in the most unforeseen places you can stumble across something that inspires you. One of my favorite activities is to take Ruckus on a long walk to find something I have never experienced before. I have started to document some of these places, people, and things I discover on my Instagram (@jesgordon) with the hashtag #coolthingsonthestreet. I want to inspire you to do the same! Whatever city you may be in, hit the streets and show me what you find!

In The Still Of The Night

It's where dreams are born, secrets are kept and beauty abounds. Here, in the glow of perfect shadows and light, expertly crafted fantasies come true.

The guests are formal in dress and thus the designer must provide a venue that calls up visions of ethereal fairy tales and magic.

For this summer night, JG did exactly that.

A Flower A Day Keeps The Doctor Away

The Favorite Flowers Perfect For Any Event

One more adventure to cross off the intern bucket list—a trip to the flower market. Jes and Rocio invited me to accompany their hot date to Dutch Flower Line. This was far from what most experience at a flower shop. I was able to walk through with the pro—Jes. She knows flowers like I know the nearest Urban Outfitters location. I walked through in awe of the beautiful flowers and knowledge Jes holds for flowers. She had a clear vision of the arrangement she was hoping to make, and was able to achieve something even more spectacular. The romantic and elegant hues of white, pink and purple complemented one another as the flowers married perfectly together (pun intended).

The Art Of Napkin Folding

Lets talk about napkins ...

The first napkin was a lump of dough the Spartans called 'apomagdalie'. Today, the napkin has evolved into something more than a means of wiping remnants of a meal off of one's face; it has become a statement piece at any event. The JG team doesn't cut any corners when it comes to your linens.

When it comes to event design and production, it is important to create a vibrant and unique atmosphere with an overall cohesive theme. Your linens should not be forgotten when it comes to this. It is crucial to consider the linen design, size, color, and material. Napkins should be fun and functional.

Event Production and Beyond

The race to find the best summer internship as a college undergraduate student starts during the months of winter jackets and scarves. As a junior in Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration, the concept of event planning sparked my interest. I was given the opportunity to interview with the creativeDIRECTOR, jesGORDON and loyalCOMPANION, ruckusGORDON. The blogs and photographs of her visions do not do her justice. I was immediately captivated by her eccentric and vibrant personality and her knowledge of the industry.

The jesGORDON/properFUN team has not only heightened my interest but has exposed me to aspects of production and team management that amaze me each and every time.

Sweet and Lovely

Recently, at the Harvard Club, JG installed a fabulous star studded event for a young lady celebrating her Bat Mitzvah. Combining whimsy, bold colors and an "Oscar" worthy artistic eye, this event was one of a kind.

I must admit to being a mush when it comes to witnessing the path from tween to young lady. One moment young enough to giggle and the next, old enough to be responsible. It's a transition of epic proportions. Leaving childhood behind and embarking on the rest of the journey, of course there is a celebration!

Capturing this moment is what JG does best!
